Checkered and incised walnut stock; engraved German-silver trigger guard with long tang, spur and pineapple finial; engraved pewter end cap; German silver furniture including ramrod entry pipe, line-engraved barrel key escutcheons and plain oval thumb piece...all engraving is top quality. Inlays include an engraved eagle and a rectangular plate with concave corners that is engraved. This pistol has a 9 7/8-inch .52-caliber octagonal barrel engraved and signed at patent breech; signed "J. M. CASWELL / LANSINGBURGH, NY;" the tang is also engraved as are lock and dolphin form hammer. The lock signed "R. S. CLARK (in Gothic lettering) / EXTRA...The ramrod is approximately 8.25-inches long and is missing work; based on color, it may be original. Traces of browning fading to smoky gray on barrel; a few dings on the barrel; good amount of bluing on hammer with dark even color on lock-plate. The stock with nice old color and patina is in very good condition. (Approximately 15-inches in length.)
