Springfield Model 1847 Artillery Musketoon
Armory Altered From Cavalry Musketoon - SOLD

This example, probably modified circa 1855-1860 is .74-caliber with 26-inch round barrel; dated 1853 on lock-plate and on barrel tang. There are two faint cartouches on left side of stock and impressed number "33". The iron ramrod swivels and sling and ring bar have been removed. The tip of forend slightly reduced to make room for bayonet; bayonet lug added under muzzle; sling swivels added. Bright patina; mechanically tight...wood is fine with good color.
