Blunderbuss Flintlock Pistol
Full stock...walnut
By William Jover
London - SOLD

(William Jover worked between 1750 and 1786 in London.)
The 9-inch swamped-barrel is signed Jover London on the barrel-flat; crown over CP within oval and crown over V within oval; and WI cast in barrel. The tang and tang-screw are engraved; barrel decorated with simple turned and cast motif as depicted. All steel furniture; engraved trigger guard with pineapple finial and long tang; engraved butt-cap with tang and engraved butt-cap-screw. The lockplate (2-screw type) is signed Jover; mechanically fine. The lock screws and escutcheons are engraved. Metal parts are a nice smoky gray; overall fine surface pitting mentioned for accuracy. There is a small ancient expert repair to stock; a 1-inch by less than half-inch wedge between rear end of lock plateau and rear end of trigger guard. The joint, color and patina are so tight that this may be a manufacturing defect. (Overall length: 14.25 inches; barrel length: 9 inches.)
