Grice Queen Anne Flintlock Pistol
Probably William Grice, Birmingham
Worked 1766-1777
Silver Mounted, turned cannon muzzle

Mechanically fine with nice even brown color on barrel; proof-marks on barrel are partially polished away. The lockplate with outside line engraving also brown with some fading to gray under pan. The frizzen, frizzen spring, hammer and jaw are of similar color and are lightly line-engraved. The lockplate raised on elevated carved plateau with beavertail carving that conforms to elevation and carving surrounding lightly engraved barrel tang. The lock is held in place by two screws that also affix the silver sideplate with cartouche, flags and trophies; sideplate elevation also carved with same beavertail. The iron trigger guard with light pitting is overall brown and has light line engraving and long tang extending to the silver grotesque butt-cap on bag grip. The grip cracked and was professionally glued where the tang of the trigger guard is pinned to the stock...this was because of shrinkage; crack followed the grain. (Overall length: 11.5 inches; barrel length: 6.5 inches.)
