Prussian Model 1850 Naval Pistol by Suhl
Sold to the U.S. for the Civil War
A single shot .65 caliber percussion pistol, marked with a 2-headed eagle over "Suhl" over "GH" over anchor on the lock plate. It is also marked with a crown over R on the left rear barrel flat and an eagle over anchor on top barrel flat. A crown over B can also be found on most of the brass furniture. A crown over W is also found on the steel plate behind the side plate. The brass has coated with a varnish or shellac to protect it; 20% has fallen away. Excellent case colors remain on both lock and hammer. The blue 9.25-inch round barrel is faded to a blue/plum color. The gun itself measures 16-inches in overall length. The pistol retains its hinged rammer, and has no wood damage. The pistol was altered by Wurfflein of Philadelphia at one point in its life; the belt hook was removed.
