M1841 Robbins & Lawrence "Mississippi Rifle" (1850)
Stock with two cartouches; "M.C.A.T." above butt plate tang; butt plate tang marked "U.S. / CO. E / MASS 46 / 41;"(Raised in Hampden County on a 9-month enlistment, involved in several small actions before it returned to MA and mustered out.)


This .58-Caliber with 33-inch round barrel is marked "ROBBINS / & / LAWRENCE / U.S." on the lockplate in front of the hammer and "WINDSOR VT. / 1850" on the tail. The date 1849 also appears on the bbl tang. "W.A.T" inspector cartouche on the left side of the stock. The bbl is marked "U.S / J.P.C. / P" on the upper left. Barrel and rifling look bright and sharp. Lockplate and hammer are an even bright gray finish; barrel is a speckled brown fading top gray. Brass has a mellow patina. Stock with typical small nicks and dents otherwise fine; mechanically tight. Lock is fine.
