French Model 1773 Musket & Bayonet

Revolutionary War Period
French Model 1773 Infantry Musket
"Manafic Royale / de St Etienne"
St. Etienne

The .75-caliber 44.75-inch barrel with remnant or partially visible proof mark on top left of breech is a smooth uniform deep, almost black color with typical pitting around the touch hole. The bayonet lug mounted 1.875-inches from the muzzle.
The lock marked "Manafic Royale / de St Etienne" beneath "HB" and a crown; trumpet shaped steel ramrod; the stock is marked with a fleur de lis and crown bracketed by four letters including SE for St. Etienne Manufactory. All fittings appear to be original and have a very dark patina. The stock has the usual dings with a very tight fissure around the lock plateau that was long ago mended and is not visible to the naked eye; there are no other visible cracks or losses. The stock is literally "in-the-black" having a very dark patina. The overall length is approximately 60-inches; mechanically fine with all else in very good condition. The stock appears to retain much of the original finish that has darkened with age. Butt plate marked E over No. 41.
Although the term "Charleville 1766 Musket" is almost universally used for several patterns, the fittings and ramrod assign that which we offer as "the improved Model 1773".
Price: $6,500
