Silver thumb-piece engraved "SBS"
Circa 1850
Checkered walnut stock; simulated Damascus finish on approximately .50-caliber barrel; 7-groove rifling; casehardened lock; lock and barrel marked "DERINGER / PHILADELPHIA;" barrel marked "P" on left side of breech; barrel retains 90%+ of finish, dolphin form hammer retains 60%+ of bluing. The breech, hammer, lockplate and screws are engraved. German silver fittings including trigger guard with long tang and pineapple finial; wedge escutcheon, nose-cap and butt-cap...inlayed shield form thumb-piece engraved "SBS"; barrel engraved "S. B. Slocumb" in script. Purportedly for Samuel B. Slocumb of New Orleans, Louisiana, importer and dealer or firearms. We do not claim the inscription to be an agent's mark; probably identifies an owner. This pistol remains in very good condition, stock in great condition. (Approximately 9-inches long, barrel approximately 5-inches long.)
