Powder Horn with Brass Fittings
Engraved on Brass Butt...George Curtis-England-1803
Possibly British East India Company - SOLD

This early 19th century powder horn has a brass cap that is engraved “GEORGE CURTIS ENGLAND 1803”, there is a brass powder measure on the tip and brass fittings for a shoulder strap. The overall length is approximately 13-inches. The horn has a rich, deep patina. There are cracks along the outer side of the horn but they seem to only be along the surface.

We found a Captain George Curtis who served with the British East India Company. He was married to Anna Delicia Windsor who died in 1795 and was buried in Wansted, outside of London. His brother was Sir William Curtis who served as Lord Mayor of London and was a Member of Parliament. Interesting, but sadly there’s no positive way to assign ownership of this horn to Captain Curtis.
