Austrian Flintlock Holster Pistol
Second half of the eighteenth century...
Wonderful Condition

This pistol has Vienna proof marks in a deep silver or platinum cartouche on the top of the barrel. It is full-stocked in a light colored wood with a horn forend tip. There is raised carving around the rammer pipes, trigger guard, tang, side-plate and lock-plate. This example is brass mounted with a two-piece side-plate, butt cap, trigger guard and two rammer pipes; trigger guard bow is paneled. There is no engraving on the brass, but nice complex edges to the parts. The .50 caliber round to octagon barrel is 9.25 inches long with a complex floral wedding ring. The barrel retains about 90% original blue finish. The unmarked lock is heavily rounded with swan neck hammer and no bridle. The dark case colors are fading leaving a beautiful blue/gray color with excellent metal surfaces. The barrel has fixed iron open sights at front and rear. This gun was probably manufactured in the second half of the 18th century.
