Pair Of Dumarest Flintlock Pistols
Circa 1823-1830

A very nice pair of French flintlock greatcoat pistols by Dumarest of Paris (1823-1830). This pair has box-locks with iron barrels and frames. They have wide checkered bag/birds head grips with hollows cuts down the backstraps and around the butts. There are raised carved leaf patterns at the left and right where the stocks join the frames and silver shield nameplates set into the left side of both stocks. The checkering on the grips is very fine. The barrels measure 3 1/8 inches round to octagon with wedding rings at center and muzzle. The barrels are marked on the top left "Dumarest" with border vines, and "a Paris" on the top right also with border vines. The frames have border engraving in harlequin style. The sliding safeties at the top of each of the pistols lock the hammer and frizzen. The guns are mechanically fine with the steel being medium blue/gray in color with traces of original blue. They are about 8.5 inches in overall length.
