British Military-Style Dueler
Signed T. Mortimer & Son, London - SOLD

A beautiful British .68 caliber percussion pistol, circa 1830-1840 by Thomas Elsworth Mortimer. The gun has a 10 1/8 inch round barrel with English proofs and the initials DB on the underside and an overall length of 15.5 inches; patent breech, Rigby flats, and two platinum barrel bands. The barrel retains 80% of the original brown twist color; lock and hammer are nicely engraved and have some dark faded case color; tang is also nicely engraved. The gun has a round butt with no butt cap and a nicely checkered wrist; iron trigger guard is engraved. The pistol features an iron-captured ramrod with an iron ferrule. The thumb piece and barrel key escutcheons are made of German silver. The gun has a full stock that was not made for a nose cap. A similar style pistol is pictured in The Mortimer Gunmakers-1753-1923 by H. Lee Munson, page 177, plate 271.
