Unusual Full Stock
Dated American Under Hammer Pistol
With Ring Trigger
A very unusual example of a percussion under hammer pistol, this one is marked "TBD 1849". This handmade pistol has a full stock with ring trigger, recessed nipple and a 4.75-inch octagonal iron barrel having a blade front sight and a brass rear "V" notch sight. The gun is iron mounted with a full tang terminating at the butt and a full trigger plate also stopping at the butt; ramrod is housed in the stock under the barrel. The pistol is lightweight and has graceful lines with the small silver inlay on the right side of the grip engraved "TBD" and "1849". There is a small piece of wood missing from the forend, and while no original finish remains, the metal surfaces are good.
It is very unusual to find an under hammer pistol with a full stock and ring trigger, while dated specimens are among the most unusual of finds.
