Antique…North American Curly Maple Stocked Musket, Canadian Indian
Likely Native Canadian Scratch-Carved Decoration, Assembled Parts
Unknown Maker, Circa 1790
Woodlands Folk Art, It’s all about character and soul…

American Stocked Musket, Assembled Parts, Scratch-Carved, right facing

Boldly striped maple, likely original surface, molded ramrod channel; lock side of butt is
carved with geometric design and turtle; cheek side displays deer, trees and geese.
Brass furniture including fancy engraved trigger guard, pipes; a scalloped (lobed) and
engraved buttplate…both buttplate and trigger guard display the same drum and sheaf
of arrows. The sideplate mortice is make-do covered; a brass plate and what appears to
be an ancient piece of leather hide. The lock is period…doesn’t fit mortice.
The .72-caliber octagonal-to-round barrel was reduced in length during its working
period; measures 40.5”, overall length: 55.25”.
