Scarce Smith & Wesson First Model Russian, also known as the “Old Old Model Russian,” serial no. 27568, chambered for the .44 S&W Russian cartridge. This commercial example is distinguished by the English barrel marking terminating in “RUSSIAN MODEL.” Developed from Smith & Wesson’s large-frame No. 3 revolver following the Imperial Russian government’s 1871 order, the First Model incorporated modifications requested for Russian service and helped establish the .44 Russian cartridge. Commercial First Model Russian revolvers were produced in considerably smaller numbers than their military-contract counterparts, with approximately 4,655 reported. This example is particularly desirable for its unusually high degree of original blue finish and apparently unfired condition.

Item Condition: Exceptional condition, retaining a great deal of its bright blue finish, with some finish loss along the top rib and minor flaking to the cylinder. Appears unfired.
