Fine E. Remington & Sons Model 1875 single-action six-shot revolver, no. 1251, chambered in the popular .44-40 Winchester Center Fire cartridge. Introduced during the 1870s as Remington’s large-frame metallic-cartridge revolver, the Model 1875 was designed to compete directly in the market dominated by Colt’s Single Action Army. It retained the distinctive solid-frame profile and prominent web beneath the ejector housing associated with Remington’s earlier percussion Army revolvers. Originally offered in .44 Remington Centerfire, the Model 1875 was subsequently chambered for the increasingly popular .44-40 WCF as well as .45 Government. This example is particularly handsome with its bright nickel finish, fine walnut grips numbered to the gun, and contrasting blued screws.
