The barrel is dated 1858 and is a smooth plumb-brown color; good bore; lock displays eagle on Maynard tape primer lid; U.S./Harpers Ferry on forward section of lock; date mark of 1857 at rear section. Breech markings: V/P over eagle head proof; buttplate marked U.S. The action is smooth and tight; lock displays mottled smoky-gray color, all surfaces smooth. The walnut stock displays allover dings and dark patina; old repaired crack to stock at wrist which follows the grain; another tight fissure from breech tang screw follows the grain. (Overall L: 49”, .58-caliber barrel L: 33”)
