Springfield, Massachusetts, Dated 1859 - SOLD

U.S. Model 1855 Rifled-Musket, Springfield, .54-Caliber
Springfield, Massachusetts, Dated 1859, right facing

This .58-caliber Civil War era single-shot muzzleloader remains in excellent overall condition, as does the broad three-groove rifling within 40” barrel; all metal is smooth and bight with brown speckling. Brass nose cap (was changed to iron later in 1859).
The barrel displays “VP/ Eagle”, and “1859” at breech. The beveled lock-plate is fitted with a C-shaped hammer with knife-edge lip and the Maynard tape priming system; stampings are sharp and clear; displayed are the large spread winged eagle on the front-hinged primer door centered by the date “1858” and U.S/Springfield. The stock remains in fine condition and displays a nice patina. Overall, the condition is very good including the tight and smooth action. (Overall L: 56”, barrel L: 40”)
