The octagonal barrel is fine; the lockplate displays the three-line maker's mark, "W. KETLAND and Co" (1802-1831) and is smooth and tight. All brass furniture includes an outstanding lock screw escutcheon ornamented with a terrific engraved eagle; also the trigger guard, pipes, buttplate and engraved two-piece patchbox. Silver wire inlay centers engraved shield-shape thumb-piece, breech tang and forend of comb; a stylized silver star with rocker, floral and border engraving surmounts the carved cheek-piece.
