Model 1855 U.S., .58 caliber percussion rifle; three groove barrel; tulip ramrod; bright finish except for the case hardened two-leaf sight and front sight; iron mountings; walnut stock with oval inspector's mark to left of breech; eagle on lid of Maynard primer compartment; "U.S. / HARPER'S FERRY" at front of lock, "1860" at rear; "V/P/eagle head" on right side of barrel near breech, "1860" on top of barrel at breech; two barrel bands w/ "D / 57" on top of rear band and "U" on right side of each band; russet color leather sling. Patchbox contains spare nipple. Sword bayonet has brass grip and curved, 21.75-inch blade, signed "JB" for James Burton, on flat of the grip above ring; overall length of 26.25-inches, has a black leather scabbard with brass tip and throat attached to a black leather frog. Bayonet, scabbard, and frog are in excellent condition. This is a superior example in excellent condition with only cosmetic cleaning; the stock has some small areas of fill near the left of the breech, otherwise only the expected wear.
