Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket, Harpers Ferry, Type III, Dated 1841

Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket, Harpers Ferry, Type III, Dated 1841 Reconversion, otherwise fine, in-the-black!, right facing

Measurement: .69-caliber single shot muzzleloader, 42-inch round barrel

Material: Walnut stock

Condition: Stock and metal parts appear to remain in original surface; barrel is dark
brown with some thinning to color in breech area. The stock displays a beautiful patina
and remains in very good original condition. The lockplate is original however other
associated lock parts, both internal and external are modern. (See detailed images
comparing original lock from another gun [on left] to modern lock pictured on right.
Mechanics are tight and smooth.

Additional Information: Most of this type were converted to percussion as was this
example, those remaining in original flint configuration are exceedingly rare. Detachable
brass flashpan without fence, button head ramrod, buttplate marked “US”, bayonet lug
on top of barrel at muzzle. The lockplate is flat and beveled; frizzen displays a forward
bend at top section…low stock comb. The original lockplate marked: HARPERS FERRY
/ 1841 with eagle over US. A distinctive feature of the TYPE III is a ball shape
strengthening device to trigger guard bow at sling swivel. (Illegible inspectors marks)
