Material: Silver; original case

Condition: Toned, uncirculated

Additional Information: This silver medallion featuring the famous portrait of Sam Colt on the
obverse and the Colt "prancing pony" and wreath surrounding the commemorative statemen
was struck in 1914 "TO COMMEMORATE THE ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
BIRTH OF COLONEL SAMUEL COLT INVENTOR AND MANUFACTURER OF REVOLVING
FIREARMS / July 19, 1814"
. This medallion was produced in very limited numbers (ten MADE
in 10K gold, 100 in Sterling silver, and 388 in bronze) by the firm Whitehead & Hoag…founded
in 1892 in Newark, New Jersey, by Benjamin S. Whitehead (1858-1940) and Chester R. Hoag
(1860-1935).
