Colt Model 1871-72 Open Top Revolver, Exceptional
.44-Caliber RF, Serial #1309 All Matching
“One of the more difficult of major Colt revolvers to obtain”.
A very rare and exceptional example retaining 90% original factory nickel; backstrap
screw heads retain 95% bright blue, all other traces of blue. As expected, some nickel
loss on the back of barrel housing, front edge of cylinder and the muzzle, scattered
nickel losses to straps. Correct barrel marking…top of barrel reads: “ADDRESS COL.
SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Patent dates on left side of frame:
“PAT.JULY.25,1871 / PAT.JULY.2,1872”. Crisp 100%-cylinder scene, all other markings
excellent. Mechanically perfect with excellent bore. The unquestionably period ivory
stocks display a rich mellow patina and the ubiquitous minor surface age fissures; tiny
chip to inside of heel. The gun is overall untouched and an outstanding early example of
this scarce and very desirable Colt single action revolver.
