A very rare Model 1836 converted from flintlock
New Jersey Marked, right facing

This Model 1836 [1837] pistol was manufactured by Johnson of between 1836 and 1844 and was subsequently converted to percussion. Percussion converted Model 1836 pistols were extensively used in the Civil War. The pistol has a brass front sight blade, dished rear sight, swivel ramrod with button head and iron mountings. The lock is marked "U.S. / R.JOHNSON / MIDDN CONN / 1834" below is the remnants of original brass pan. The barrel is marked "NJ" near the breech. The left side of the stock has two clear cartouches and is stamped NJ.
The bright finish .54-caliber round barrel is 8 1/2" long and displays light scattered pitting; trigger guard, tang and butt-cap also bright finish with very minor pitting. The lock is mottled smoky gray as is hammer which displays scattered light pitting. The action is tight. The walnut stock displays nice color and is clean.
