Allen & Thurber Single Shot Muzzle-Loading Sidehammer Percussion Rifle Only a few hundred produced circa 1840s to early 1860s Overall length: 51”, .40-caliber, 34-inch octagonal barrel

This bench-rifle features a brass blade front site; elevation adjustable rear sight, browned iron forearm with wooden ramrod mounted under the barrel, floral engraved action including hammer and trigger guard; smooth walnut buttstock with a crescent buttplate displaying border and scrolled floral engraving. The top barrel flat is marked "ALLEN & THURBER / WORCESTER" – “CAST STEEL”. The barrel retains a smooth blue patina; bright buttplate is a nice gray color. The stock is in excellent condition with no dings, displays good color and smooth patina. The action needs minor work, the tumbler doesn’t connect with sear. The marking is quite strong and clear, good looking and clean.
