U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket, Type III, Springfield, Lockplate Dated 1832 42” barrel, .69-caliber single shot muzzleloader

The walnut stock retaining original surface, displays good color and nice patina; the usual minor dings, else fine and original. There are two inspector cartouches behind the sideplate; aft of the rear trigger guard extension is an inspector mark within oval cartouche and the stamped initials “JB”. The barrel displays 95% smooth brown patina, else a mottled bronzy gray. All metal parts in smooth dark finish, likely original surfaces. The lockplate displays a small eagle above “US” / SPRING/FIELD over 1832 stamped vertically behind the Hammer. Rear trigger guard extension is marked with an “S”; front extension marked “DB”; buttplate displays the “US” mark; sideplate stamped “3” . The action is smooth and tight. A very nice “in-the-black” example.
