Model 1837 French Marine Single-Shot Percussion Pistol, Chatellerault The Maunfacture Nationale d'Armes de Chatellerault

The .60 caliber, 6.75" round smoothbore barrel is octagonal at the breech and is slightly tapered; bore is clean and sharp as are all metal parts…no surface erosion; even the screw heads are sharp and show little use. The pistol markings are crisp and clear, the pistol is marked "Mle 1837” on the breech tang. The Lockplate is engraved "Mre Rle de / Chatellerault;" The action tight and smooth; bright finish. The vanished, slightly figured walnut stock displays a nice and original depth of color and patina. The pistol with brass and iron furniture includes a belt hook, captive swivel ramrod and lanyard ring. The marks are as sharp. The butt cap has the naval inspector’s anchor at the screw; two “L” proof marks on the lower trigger guard tang; another within the bow; “L” proof mark on the trigger guard and another “p” and an “L” in front of the trigger guard. The side plate has an “P” proof. There is a “D” proof above the Chatellerrault marking on the lock. The top flat of the screw, behind the belt hook is marked “36”.
