Material: Cherry, poplar, white pine
Condition: Excellent original condition including brass hardware and feet; restoration to
rear foot blocks, left side base molding, an interior drawer and partial single loper
molding.
Additional Information: Small size William and Mary desks retaining original bun feet,
brasses, and being constructed of cherrywood are extremely rare. The interior features
and outstanding stepped-out interior featuring an exceptionally grained fall down
prospect door retaining original functioning lock that opens to reveal three drawers and
a hidden well. The birds head and bump out scrolled dividers are quite sophisticated
and deep…they work in concert producing an interesting interior. The fall-front writing
surface is above four graduated drawers and a molded base raised on outstanding bun
feet of exceptional form, color, and condition.

The desk was purportedly owned by the Gardnier family of Long Island, New York;
acquired by a private collector in 1998 to AAAWT.

Desk on Frame, Chippendale, The Stocking Group, Connecticut
A flawless Expression of Form
Date/Period: 1760-1795
Measurement: Height: 44.5"; writing height: 32"; width: 40"; depth: 18.75"
Material: Cherry, secondary woods: white and yellow pine;
two drawer backs are poplar.
Condition: Very good, commensurate with age and use. One trivial minor lip repair
Hardware is replaced.

Additional Information: The Stocking Group which includes four closely related desks
on frames was named for Luther Stocking, an early owner. All five display outstanding
related design features; fitted interiors with hidden compartments behind prospect
section, and similar construction.

Additional Information: Fall-front lid over four graduated, scratch-beaded drawers on
molded base resting on bracket feet. The interior features drawers over valanced
cubbies.

Condition: Good, lid hinges and brasses are very old yet not original
Additional Information: The fall front lid opens to the interior featuring a fan carved
prospect door behind which are four drawers; prospect section cubbies and drawers.
The cubbies divided by Rhode island style partitions. The case with for thumb-molded
graduated drawers and molded base is raised on ogee feet. Very good color and patina.

Desk, Federal Slant Front, Curly Maple, Boldly Striped, French Feet
New England, Circa 1790 to 1810
Nicely figured wood including interior
Generally very good, wear commensurate with age and use; issues are
cosmetic and mentioned for accuracy; minor scratches and wear to top board; typical tight
shrinkage cracks to fall board and case sides. Left side with some white scratch marks.
Right side partially sun bleached and with horizontal scratch near midsection. Escutcheon
and brasses probably replaced. Lid hinges replaced; lid patched accordingly. Some short
drawer knobs loose. Inside of one short drawer retains a typed label indicating origin
and date. Scuff mark to upper left corner of lowermost drawer. Crack and repairs to right
side foot facings. (H: 42.75", writing H: 32", W: 39.75", D: 20.5")

Date/Period: 1760-1770 - SOLD
Measurement: Height: 40"; writing height: 30"; width: 35.75"; depth: 19.75"
Material: Mahogany, cedar, cypress, and yellow pine, brass hardware
Condition: Very good, original brass hardware; base missing two glue blocks. At one
time the bracket foot returns may have featured small pendent drops.
Additional Information: The slant lid opens to reveal an interior containing a central
prospect section featuring an arched paneled door flanked by vertical document
drawers, and valanced cubbies over drawers. The lower case having four graduated
drawers retaining original brass hardware and featuring thumb-molded overhanging
drawer face edges is raised on a molded base resting on applied bracket base.
The three-quarter dust boards and other construction features are in the circle of
Thomas Elfe.

Additional Information: The rectangular case with hinged sloping lid opening to an
outstanding fitted interior; three concave-carved blocked drawers are behind shell-
carved prospect door flanked by three valanced cubbies above conforming blocked
drawers, each side flanked by bracket-valanced larger cubbies surmounting concave
carved drawer facings. The case with four graduated long thumb-molded drawers on
molded base raised on applied bracket feet. A lovely example…displaying definitive
Newport shop traditions.
