Additional Information: This piece features an original pewter lid with shell-form
thumbpiece mirroring impressed decoration. The neck is ribbed and brushed in cobalt;
shoulder with impressed decorative devices is also brushed in deep cobalt…above
three impressed rosettes, the center flanked by rampant lions.

Rare Westerwald Gray Salt Glazed Cask, Keg, Portrait & Seal of Victor Amadeus Date/Period: 1690-1700
Condition: Chipping to bung rim caused by years of use, else excellent and original
Additional Information: A robust example, rarely encountered molded, tooled cask
featuring impressed and applied ornament including armorial and portrait; centering the
bung are bands of applied repeating decorative devices each displaying wreath and lion
motif against diapered ground [symbols of royalty]. The barrel rests within the original
cradle featuring four carved lion heads; carved pyramidal devices terminate each end of

Material: Stoneware, brown wash, and salt-glaze
Condition: Excellent original condition, a shallow dent to lid and a very small trivial
shallow chip near bottom. Displays beautifully.
Additional Information: The applied body frieze displays a partially illegible date: 15 _ _?
Domed pewter lid, shell-form thumbpiece. cylindrical neck features an applied relief
frieze within concentric rings; domed shoulder displaying impressed ornamentation,
strap handle; cylindrical midsection then tapering inward continuing to a rounded foot.
The frieze applied around the body features six pair of dancers and a pair of musicians;
beneath this panel is impressed ornamentation.
This jug shows scenes of dancing peasants after prints [Peasant’ Feast] by German
artist Hans Sebald Beham. The decoration is likely a parody of proper behavior, a
reminder against excess. The inscription below the dancers translates, "Gerald, thou
must blow lustily so the peasants may dance as though they were mad. Faith, says the
pastor, I will dance away my cap with my cassock."

handle features two-finger-tip-impressions centering five tapering horizontal moldings to
strap terminus ending in a point. The neck decorated with a crisp scarcely encountered
“squared” beard facemask displaying outstanding pronounced details above large
