Standard contract musket with bayonet lug at top of muzzle, split front band with brass sight and two flat bands with sling swivel on the middle band; original button-head ramrod; standard bevel edge lockplate marked in front of hammer, in arch, “US” above “half sunburst” above N. STARR. Marked vertically behind the hammer “MIDDtn / CONN / 1832” over an “8-pointed flower blossom/star”. Lock with brass pan… bridled; bulbous terminus to frizzen spring. Hammer is standard 1816 pattern…heart shaped cutout. The barrel is smoky gray mottled brown; markings include “US / AM / P” and the date “1832” on breech tang. Trigger guard & buttplate are steel; Type III trigger guard is of two pieces with sling loop on front post. Buttplate tang is marked “US”. Stock is sound and displays fine, likely original finish featuring robust color and patina; inspector marks include “LO” stamped within oval cartouche just ahead of buttplate tang; “LS” stamped within oval behind side-plate. A very good example with smooth and tight action.
