Condition: Very good, trivial touches; painting was recently
housed within a period frame.

Additional Information: Ware, a young portrait painter displays his oeuvre…large fully
open eyes, prominent ear, and eyebrows, heavy shading along the nose; a deep
depression in the mid-line of upper lip. The artist’s portraits, perhaps 40 works were
produced in a 4 to 5-year period, most all subjects are painted against a dark
background. Most of his subjects were from Pomfret, Woodstock, Barnard or Hartland,
Vermont.

Condition: Extremely minor touchup to a few scattered abrasions with all else fine.
Likely the original outstanding gilt frame; original stretcher.

Additional Information: This portrait of an unidentified child features symbolism
indicating that the child may have been deceased; one shoe off would indicate the child
is departed from the world however some would argue that the motif only shows a
transition from infancy to becoming a toddler. The handsome child seated on a carpet
before rose-color drapery is holding flowers dropping petals possibly showing the
transition.

Additional Information: The label of Robert Fieux Restoration, 1972 is attached to
stretcher. It appears that when he relined the paining, he transcribed on the stretcher

painter Isaac Augustus Wetherby who painted in Boston and Iowa.

The portrait bezel is set within a panel of curly birch and is surrounded by hand-cut
zigzag molding centered by a flat molding joined by corner blocks…the molding features
an inlayed undulating vine. A stepped zigzag molding within applied cockbeaded molding
centers the work. (Three-cracks to the portrait, else fine and original;
