This portrait of an unidentified boy speaks to Aaron Dean Fletcher's earliest oeuvre [1835-1837] when the artist was working in Vermont and usually painted a plain, drab olive background. Fletcher is known to have painted at least one other boy holding a watch around the same time.

Material: Oil on canvas

Condition: Excellent. Gleaned from a February 2000 Skinner catalog: scattered punctures/tears, flaking, and losses; craquelure. All quite trivial.
