Pair of Painted Leather Fire Buckets, Kavanagh-Relief

Pair of Painted Leather Fire Buckets, Kavanagh-Relief, Image 1

A wreath of foliage tied with reddish salmon colored bowknot flanking the central motif identifying the Relief society member and date. The original name was over-pained KAVANAUGH during its period of use. The buckets are varnished; now oxidized causing the blue painted ground within the circle and the top and bottom blue painted bands to display a greenish tint. The buckets have a Maine history; believed to be the (James) Kavanagh family of Damariscotta.
