overpainted in black during the 19th century. Most of the black paint has thinned or
simply worn away exposing a warm red surface displaying great age and patina.

having shaped terminus. The chamfered top rail is joined to stiles by dovetails. Lower

Settle Bench, Old Red Paint, New England, Small Size Date/Period: 1790-1825 - SOLD
Condition: Generally, very good; loss to bottom proper left baseboard and lower
backboard due to fire during early working life. It is probably that a hot ember shot out of
fireplace. The piece displays beautifully; function is not compromised.
Additional Information: Beaded backboards flanked by tapering out swept, and
shaped sides dovetail jointed to projecting bolection molded top. The beautifully worn
seat with two hinged lift tops opens to a storage compartment.

Additional Information: A functional bench for seating or display…the through-tenoned
top with rounded ends raised on plank legs displaying shaped fronts and bootjack
cutout profiles forming feet. The legs are joined by wonderfully molded rail.

Probably Pennsylvania Date/Period: Circa 1830-1840
Additional Information: The top raised on shaped front legs resting on demilune cutout
feet; legs joined by beaded apron; back of legs and bench canted brackets set into
dadoes. It appears that this bench was made to fit a specific space, likely against a
wall… perhaps a bucket bench; originally fabricated with one end of top being squared,
the other with ovolo front corner.
