A fine and rare Staffordshire pottery jug featuring a relief portrait of Wellington. The portrait is titled EARL WELLINGTON which is a rare and unusual feature on this commemorative piece. The piece is precisely dated to the first nine months of 1812. Wellington was made an Earl after the fall of Ciudad Rodrigo in January of that year, and then after successive victories at Badajoz and Salamanca he entered Madrid and was promoted to Marquis.
