The decorated surface was likely created by a trained decorative painter; the composition is highly organized…a repeated “burst” pattern like an ariel firework or small exploding chrysanthemums ornamenting the entire surface.
Probably decorated using a distinctive stippled paint composition, possibly employing a vinegar-based glazing technique that produced the lively radiating pattern across the surface.
The applied moldings are painted in contrasting black…containing and complimenting the yellow surface.
The rectangular dovetail joined box with slightly projecting molded lid over conforming case rests on a base featuring congruent moldings.
