Room corner panel clock with brass movement, and pewter dial signed “Richard Sterling, South Woodstock” Richard Sterling was a clock maker from South Woodstock, Vermont and is listed in Canfields “Valley of the Kedron” [history of South Woodstock], and in Dana’s “History of South Woodstock“, pages 70 and 258

This is a single panel removed from the corner of a paneled room. History is attached to the inside of the door; the provenance of the Doolittle family is inside the panel door. The clock travelled up-and-down the Connecticut river stopping in Warwick Massachusetts, Townshend Vermont, and South Woodstock

Merchant’s Label: Take note of the label of John Warden of Bradford, Vermont [about 45 minutes from Woodstock. We found a late 19th century newspaper advertisement that dates to about the time the last Doolittle died.

Material: Height: 100.5”; Width: 24.25”

Item Condition: It appears that the roof leaked whereas the bottom right displays evidence of water damage which can be cleaned. The left proper vertical molding is missing…we are pleased to manage appropriate expert restoration at buyer’s expense. We have the movement, and pendulum. We suggest that movements be inspected and run for a few days by an expert; cleaned and oiled at a minimum. Our clockmaker is great, highly respected, and very reasonably priced. We have not run the clock.
