Shop sign for William Todd, who styled himself as a “Designer and Carver” at address 241. The sign displays a wonderful, aged patina: dark background (black schmaltz), gold/yellow lettering, rounded ends with circular medallions repeating the “241” number, and a nice horizontal rectangular format with slight curves—very typical for 19th-century American. The numbering “241” is almost certainly a street address; circular medallions make the numbers pop from a distance.
