1808 Style Made For War of 1812
“S. COGSWELL” in arched curve ahead of hammer with two-line markings above – “SNY / ALBANY”.
The Cogswell New York state contract was patterned after the Ely Whitney muskets using the brass pan as did the Pomeroy state contract muskets with furniture same as Springfield muskets. These are very scarce seldom seen muskets.
Measurement: Overall length: 59.25"; .72-caliber barrel length: 43.75"
Material: Walnut stock
Item Condition: Original condition, very good, as found; extremely tight fissure starting aft of trigger guard bow [cheek side] traveling to forend of comb. The stock displays a dark patina, likely the original surface. Barrel and bands are brown... some thinning to gray near breech; some scattered trivial peppering/pitting to lockplate.
