Jacob Medinger (1856-1932) was a significant German potter in Limerick Township, Montgomery County Pennsylvania, known for his sgraffito-decorated red earthenware, a traditional folk-art style of the Pennsylvania-German community, dating back to the 1700s. He is considered by many to be one of the last original Pennsylvania German potters. This plate with a coggled edge is covered in a slip decoration and highlighted with a bright green glaze. The sgraffito features a pot issuing three flowers surrounded with a sgraffito border. A number of examples of Medinger’s production that are related to this plate are displayed as part of Historic Trappe’s current exhibit, titled, From Hubener to Medinger: Redware Potters of Southeastern Pennsylvania
