Revolutionary War Era Light Infantry Powder Horn with Brass Spout

Many  British regimental commanders opted to provide superior-quality horns for their light infantry and rifle troops than the cruder Ordnance-issue horn, such as Lieutenant Colonel John Biddulph, who purchased horns with “brass chargers and ends” for the 3rd Foot’s light company in 1772, the “end” or cap of brass fitted with a brass screw for reloading with powder, less subject to cracking, splitting, swelling and jamming, as found with the Ordnance horns provided with a wooden butt or cap with wooden screw for refilling with powder).
