Upon returning from a two-year, post-presidential World Tour, General Ulysses S. Grant was greeted as a returning hero to the United States. Banquets were attended by Grant’s supporters. (T. J. Bergin was a Director and Treasurer of the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad Company).
