Lock is flat with beveled edges; small teat at rear of plate… “US” in script above eagle facing left, above SPRINGFIELD in arc. Standard barrel markings: P / small eagle head / and V near breech. Dated 1814 horizontally
behind hammer also displaying matching date on heel of buttplate; stock impressed “US” behind sideplate. The barrel displays barrel forger’s geometric [foundry] mark. Integral forged iron flashpan; trigger guard is rounded at both ends.

This 1814 dated musket is the last model of the 1795 series [Type 4] of the first standardized musket with 44.5-inch barrel made for the U.S. government at
a US arsenal, and the first model made at the Springfield Armory. (Next came the 1812 models with 42-inch barrels starting with 1814 date continuing to 1817).

Item Condition: Excellent. Expertly cleaned, tight fissure at topside of wrist pinned which doesn't distract nor compromise the integrity of this specimen.
