Miniature Embroidered Mourning Needlework – Memorial to George Washington

“General George Washington died Decb [sic] 14th 1799.”

This miniature sampler commemorates General George Washington, with stitched text reading “General George Washington died Decb 14th 1799.” The work features an elaborately dressed tomb with drapes, tassels, weeping willow trees, and two flanking plants on a raised green lawn. The painted blue sky and brown tomb areas have significantly faded but remain discernible. A ribbon surrounds the sampler, concealed by the frame.
