Engraving. Portrait of Thomas Mifflin [1744-1800] facing left wearing military uniform… likely Continental Army. Facsimile signature. Served as President of the Continental Congress and was the first Governor of Pennsylvania. Mifflin resigned from his duties in the Continental Congress in 1775 to assist in the war effort. He was made a major and then an aide-de-camp of General George Washington. His role in the Battle of Trenton and the Battle of Princeton lead to him being promoted to major general.
