Derringer Pistol, by Copyist Peter W. Kraft, Columbia, South Carolina

Walnut stock with checkering; silver plated engraved brass furniture with 10% original silver remaining; the barrel was imported and displays Belgian proof mark. Kraft was a well-known southern maker. The maker operated a shop at 184 Main Street from about 1846 specializing in percussion guns and a few sets of dueling pistols; he eventually expanded his business to include a line of derringers. Old tight shrinkage fissures traveling from pineapple trigger guard finial pin to wedges terminating at forend cap.
