Certifying that Simeon Stevens of the town of Newbury paid a duty of two dollars for the year 1815, a second certificate for the year 1817. The 1817 certificate for a two-wheel carriage/chase; the 1815 certificate for a four-wheel carriage. The certificates are signed by Thomas Leverette who became Vermont Secretary of State. When Simeon Stevens was born on 24 March 1789, in Newbury, Orange, Vermont, his father, Colonel Simeon Stevens, was 21; Simeon was one of first to settle in Newbury Vermont. In 1762 he was a 1st LT in 1st Co. of Newbury minutemen and Captain of Co of Col. Bebell's regiment from Apr 1778-Nov 30, 1779. His mother, Hannah Bailey, was 17. He married Betsey L. Bayley on 19 February 1817, in Vermont. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 22 March 1862, in his hometown, at the age of 72, and was buried in Newbury, Orange, Vermont, United States.
