Reverse Painting on Glass Depicting a Mourning Scene, with female figure (Charlotte) in a landscape by an urn on pedestal (Werther's grave). The composition is after a print from the 1774 epistolary novel titled The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang Goethe which was published in 1774 (revised in 1787). The backboard is secured to frame by sliding dovetailed wedges.
