The .58-caliber barrel is mostly bright with some light brown speckling; other metal smoky gray-brown, all smooth surfaces except trigger guard which is in dark brown patina with allover smooth light surface pitting. Lockplate markings are sharp and clear. At front of hammer is displayed "eagle / US" beneath bolster (bolster also displays small eagle). Behind the hammer is the date "1863". The "S" shaped hammer, with beveled contours, shows brown and smoky gray color. Proof marks "V / P/ eagle head" are stamped on the barrel facet; dated 1864. (Barrel bands with "U" assembly marks). The buttplate is stamped U.S. The action is tight and smooth; retains original two-leaf rear site. The walnut stock retains original finish and patina. Included is an appropriate bayonet stamped "US" that fits perfectly; brown/smoky gray.
