A genre, portrait, and historical painter, George Comegys was born in Maryland; lived in Philadelphia. As a youth he studied under John Neagle; his earliest work is recorded in 1836. He exhibited at the Artists' Fund Society, Pennsylvania Academy, the National Academy of Design in New York as well as the Apollo Gallery and Association. He died in the Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane.

Condition: Very good original condition, never cleaned, two trivial [tiny] punctures repaired.
